UK General Election
5th May 2005
Constituency of East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow
In line with the reduction of influence of Scotland in the United Kingdom's
Westminster parliament, the parliamentary constituency of East Kilbride
expanded for the 2005 election to become the new constituency of East
Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow. This comprises the old East Kilbride
constituency with the addition of three wards from the old Clydesdale
seat, changes which apparently make little difference to the political
or social composition of the seat. The constituency includes the towns
of East Kilbride and Strathaven and the villages of Blackwood, Chapelton,
Glassford, Lesmahagow and Stonehouse.
