Radio Hairmyres

Radio Hairmyres was formed in 1967 and broadcast a variety of programmes exclusively to patients in the old Hairmyres Hospital.

When the new Hairmyres Hospital opened in 2002, a decision was made that a radio service was no longer required.

It is not clear why this decision was made. Was Radio Hairmyres another victim of PPP - the private public finance arrangements which built the new hospital ? And was the decision to discontinue the service helped by personnel problems amongst the volunteer members of the radio station (as was alledged on the a former website at radiohairmyres.co.uk ?)

Radio Hairmyres would have celebrated 40 years on the air in September 2007. Sadly, that was not to be.

Cameron Marshall of Smooth Radio started his broadcasting career at Radio Hairmyres.
