Playsport East Kilbride

Playsport is a 100 acre multi-million pound sports complex
at Kingsgate West, off Stewartfield Way in East Kilbride.

South Lanarkshire Council approves the transfer of an agreement with Playgolf (Holdings) PLC to a new operator after the company behind East Kilbride's Playsport complex fell into the hands of administrators last month.

The council will enter into a new sub lease agreement, with Golf East Kilbride Ltd, a holding company for Ian Young of Baird Hills Golf Centre, Edinburgh.

Council officials had been provided with background information on Mr Young and his company and indicated their satisfaction that he would be able to operate the golf elements of the development to the same level as that originally envisaged by Playgolf.

Playsport has been designed to provide the following facilities:-

  • A 58-bay two-tier heated and floodlit driving range which features an island green based on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass as a target
  • Short game area
  • American Golf Superstore
  • The UK’s largest indoor tennis centre
  • A 25,000 sq ft state-of-the-art health & fitness centre
  • A 25-metre swimming pool
  • 2 x 7-a-side and 8 x 5-a-side football pitches
  • A 36,000 sq ft Kids’ zone
  • Over 20,000 sq ft of retail space and restaurants.
  • A unique ‘tribute’ golf course, designed by former British and World Amateur champion Peter
    McEvoy
  • It is understood that planning permission has also been given for a hotel on the site.

Present expectations are that the site could begin to open at the end of July 2009
